Krewe of Carrollton, 2006

This is the first time I have had a chance to paint an entire parade. It took many weeks, but it was certainly worth it.

A week before Katrina, the Carrollton floats were "whited out", meaning they were painted white to accept a new paintjob for the next season. The storm hit, the Carrollton den was not damaged, but their theme changed. "Blue Roof Blues" was the new theme for 2006, alluding to the temporary, plastic, blue roofs seen all over the city.

The Krewe had to keep almost all of their props from last year, as Mr. Massett's studios had been heavily damaged and the props the Krewe wanted to use were destroyed or heavily damaged. There also was not time to make new props, so their new theme had to fit around the existing props from 2005. Example: The Socrates prop was painted blue and became the "Blue Man Group" float.

The designs for the floats were kept fairly simple. It was late in November by the time the new designs were done and the Krewe was concerned if there was time to paint the entire parade before the 2006 season. It should be mentioned that the Knights of Jason parade in Metairie used these floats for their parade.
