This is a 3D re-creation of the first Mardi Gras float I painted, the Endymion, Phoenix A float for 2005. It is complete with correct lighting, paintjob, fog, dimensions, props, beads and extras. Below is a pic of the original designs by Kern Studios.
I received this design and painted the float with minimal paint supplies and only hand brushes. I did quite well for what I had and I was then approved for the job during the 2nd float painting.
Since I painted the float, I realized that it was actually much longer than the design version. It was over 40 ft. long and a maximum height of 18 ft. I re-created the float in 3D. The below picture is more acurate to the float's real shape.
This 3D model was then embellished with bead racks, authentic Endymion beads, correct lighting (flourescent and incandescent), correctly scaled and painted props, skirts, flying beads, flying doubloons and a fog machine.
From design to final paintjob and beyond. The project was to see if I could reverse a float entirely. By the way, "What is a float?" Are they supposed to be clouds? Blobs? Maleable surfaces? If you would like to see your desired float in 3d before the building begins, drop me a line. Email me!
